Research Interests
I am broadly interested in understanding mechanisms that generate patterns of animal distribution and predicting how these patterns respond to environmental change. Because such changes often occur at large spatial scales and are difficult or impossible to replicate, I have used modeling and intervention analyses to quantify their effects on animal populations. These statistical tools are critical, but they can not be used effectively without knowledge of and appreciation for the natural history of a system. Because I hope that my work will contribute to conservation and restoration of ecological systems in the face of growing human populations, I am interested in communicating my results to a general audience that includes land managers, community members, and academics. I am currently a CalFed postdoctoral fellow with PRBO Conservation Science and the Information Center for the Environment, UC Davis. This work focuses on understanding the response of bird populations to riparian habitat restoration.
